China has 60 million “left-behind children” #留守儿童, who are left in rural areas while their parents work in cities. It’s a tremendous social challenge for China. In one village I visited, more than 80% of the children lived with grandparents or relatives as their parents were away working in cities and they saw each other several times a year at the most. These children’s safety, mental health and education are a big concern. I touched upon this social issue in my new novel manuscript (work in progress).
